[Darktable-users] Crop and rotate

It would be nice if the crop and rotate module of Darktable included an
AUTO straightening option (for vertical and horizontal lines) similar to
that in Lightroom 5. Is that feasible? Thank you. Best, Francisco

Have you tried right clicking and dragging a line? This will work vertically and horizontally.

Cheers,

I think the OP is speaking about auto perspective adjustment as he
mentioned explicitly Lr5 :)

Thank you, Robert. Yes, I have. However, oftentimes I need two vertical
lines to do the proper straightening. Sometimes I even need two vertical
and two horizontal lines. I use the keystone option in the crop and rotate
module. It would be nice if there was an option that did that (or at least
tried to do that) automatically. I have no idea whether that is feasible,
though. For an example in LR 5, see this video (4m40s, that's where you
will find the example) by Thomas Leuthard:

Hi,

one idea might be to indroduce some of the functionality of ShiftN into
a darktable module (see http://www.shiftn.de). ShiftN is a Windows
program but can be used under Linux with wine. Works very well to
automatically adjust perspective corrections. The latest version has
been released with sources under the LGPL 3. So at least one could learn
from that program.

Could be a nice GSOC project, BTW.

Stefano: That's what I use. My question is whether it is possible to
implement an option for *automatic* straightening and perspective similar
to that of LR 5. Thank you. Best, Francisco

Isn't the keystone guidelines of the crop&rotate plugin what you are
looking for?
