[Darktable-users] Darktable and Digikam

I am using the unstable version of Darktable (from Pascal's PPA, version
1.5+2135~g3be1611) on an Ubuntu 14.04 (64 bit) notebook. I am now using
Digikam (version 3.5.0) to select the keepers which are then copied to a
folder (using Digikam's option "Export to remote computer") and imported
into Darktable. In Digikam I add tags and star ratings to the photos.
However, Darktable does not recognize such tags and star ratings, i.e.,
when I open the folder into Darktable the photos have no tags and also no
star ratings. Does DT recognize tags and ratings set using Digikam?
Suggestions are welcome. Thanks. FC

As digikam displays raw files with the imbeded jpeg and provides you with
no benefit vs darktable, why don't you set darktable to display the actual
raw and rate your photos there. Darktable is a complete photo management
system providing cataloging, rating, geo-location plus photo editing. I
see no benefit to adding digikam to the mix.

It would be awesome if it could start a slide-show as well... or am I
missing something?

Please run "exiv2 -pa <filename>" for one of those files copied over to that
darktable directory and show us the output. It might be that digikam doesn't
add that info to the exported files.

I have no problem if I tell digikam to use only sidecar files to store
them; never tried in-file properties (I prefer having untouched RAW
files). I have to say that the lighttable function of digikam is quite
nice, and the rating really fast (I still am struggling to write a lua
script that apply the ratings to all the file of a group).

Said that, digikam has to be configured because by default it doesn't
write the metadata anywhere else than its internal database --- this is
my configuration: Loading Image...

How can *any* other program be able to read tags that were *only* stored
with a program's "database" and not within the image or it's "sidecar"
(xml,bbl,pp3) file?
