Discussion:
[Darktable-users] How-to update a lensfun / lensfun database ?

Hi everyone,

I re-post here a question I put in the DT 2.0 release comments (
http://www.darktable.org/2015/12/darktable-2-0-released/comment-page-3/#comment-48459
)

I seems to me that DT2.0 is not compatible with the lensfun database
version 1, which is in use since lensfun 0.3 (
http://lensfun.sourceforge.net/manual/db_versions.html).

I read some workaround here :
http://photo.stackexchange.com/questions/61942/how-to-add-lensfun-0-3-0-db-to-darktable-on-ubuntu
.

The proposed way (remove version="1"in the xml headers) does work for a SLR
plus lens but does not work add-lensfun-0-3-0-db-to-darktable-on-ubuntu.

Looking at the xml syntax in compact-sony.xml shows some evolution between
database version 0 and 1.
Is there any other solution at that time than manually modifying the xml
files to fit the syntax to the database version 0 of lensfun ?

Thanks in advance !

Best regards,

Oo

You could follow this advice from Torsten Bronger, I don't remember where I've
got it.

"For lensfun <= 0.2.8, you may download
http://wilson.bronger.org/db/version_0.tar.bz2, and extract its contents over
your old database, which usually resides in /usr/share/lensfun (clean this
directory first)."

It worked for my Olympus OMD E-M10.

No, better to unpack locally and let the OS package untouched.

So, just unpack the .xml files underĀ ~/.local/share/lensfun/

I have had an ongoing problem with double-click-time settings with
darktable. I did solve the problem while darktable was using gtk2 but
the config files look different under 2.0. My mouse settings have been
modified to provide a double click time=1000.

Double-clicking in lightroom to go into darkroom and double-clicking in
darkroom to move along the film strip ... in both instances it only
works if I thrash multiple times on the mouse. Not very satisfactory!

I am using Debian Jessie (KDE) with darktable ver:2.1. Help would be
appreciated.

I use spacebar for forward and backspace for back in darktable mode.
"l" to switch to Light Table, "d" to switch to darktable mode.
Less mouse clicking is better, in my opinion.

Yes Dave, I do use the space and backspace but I often also want to move
several places along the filmstrip and then the mouse is more
convenient. .... anyway, it would be nice to know to fix the situation
in general!

Thanks for the file,

I just try to unpack in the local directory first, as adviced by Pascal
Obry.
It's then perfectly working with the RX100 mII, the proposed file seems to
correspond to the last update of lensfun, at least for my camera.

Nonetheless is it expected that darktable do not support the V1 database
format of lensfun ?

Should I open a bug/feature request on redmine for that ?

Oo

I understand your point.
The lensfun version shipped with my xubuntu / or on the ppa works with
darktable.

I quote an other topic
<http://sourceforge.net/p/darktable/mailman/message/34793294/>on the
darktable list :

*Lensfun 0.3.x broke binary compatibility, so Darktable expects fields in
Lensfun at different addresses than they are. This leads to arbitrary
confusion. Actually, it is suprising that nobody has reported aborts due
to this so far.*

Seems to be pretty close to my problem.
So I think the subject is closed for me at least on the darktable side :) ,
if I want to be able to use the new database format I may need to compile
DT.

Thanks a lot for your answers !

Oo

Darktable has nothing to do with version of lensfun database.
Distros build darktable against some version of lensfun library,
and that version of lensfun library is the key to loading/not loading some
version of lensfun database.
We have no control which lensfun version distributions ship, so you should
report this to the your distributions bugtracker.
